What pet owners need from a vet clinic website
Pet owners arrive at a vet website in one of two moods. Some are planning: a new puppy needs vaccines, a cat is due for a dental, a rabbit needs neutering. Many others are worried, often after work, and want to know right now whether you are open and whether what they are seeing is serious.
A clinic site has to serve both. It should show the hours and the current status without making anyone work it out. It should list the signs that mean "call now", per species, in plain words. It should explain services and rough costs for the planners, introduce the vets, and make it easy to ask for an appointment. Owners of cats and rabbits also look for signs that the clinic handles their animal well.
How our demo clinic handles it
Saltbox Animal Hospital is a fictional clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, created by VirtueInfo to show this kind of site. It is not a client, and the team, reviews and prices are samples.
The signature feature is the live open-now status. The site works out the current time in Halifax, compares it with the opening hours and shows "Open now, until 8 p.m." or "Closed now, opens tomorrow 8 a.m." in a pill at the top of every page. The same status appears in the hero card, and today is highlighted in the hours tables. When the clinic is closed, the drawn lighthouse in the hero dims its beam. It refreshes every minute, so nobody on your team has to update it.
Below the hero, a pet picker lets the owner choose dog, cat or rabbit. Each choice shows four services for that animal with sample prices, such as a calm cat wellness exam or a rabbit nail and teeth check. The "request a visit" button opens the appointment page with that pet already selected.
The other pages each answer one question:
- Services covers wellness exams and vaccines, dental care, surgery and urgent care, with what each includes and a note that a written estimate comes first.
- Our team introduces three vets, a technologist and the client care lead, with drawn pets instead of photos and a place for each licence number.
- Emergencies and hours lists warning signs for any pet and then for dogs, cats and rabbits, what to do on the way, and what to do when the clinic is closed.
- Appointment asks for the pet, the reason, a preferred day and time of day, and the owner's details, with checks on the phone number and email.
The team page also offers a short happy visit for nervous pets. In the demo the appointment form sends nothing. On your site it goes to your email, your booking system or your CRM.
Local SEO built in
Each page carries schema.org markup using the VeterinaryCare business type, with the city, province, opening hours and the areas served. The services page adds Service and Offer markup. Page titles name the service and the city, for example emergency vet hours or booking a vet appointment in Halifax.
The home page names the neighbourhoods the clinic serves and adds seasonal local notes, such as ticks and salted winter sidewalks. We match your name, phone number, hours and services with your Google Business Profile. The demo uses drawn illustrations and self-hosted fonts, so it loads quickly on a phone. The Saltbox Animal Hospital pages carry no search listing because the company is fictional; a live veterinary clinic site gets a sitemap, canonical URLs and a Search Console property instead.
Notes for each market
India
Indian pet owners often prefer to confirm an appointment or send a photo of a symptom on WhatsApp, so we add a WhatsApp button beside the form. Prices are shown in rupees, with payment by UPI or card. Home visits and pet boarding or grooming can sit on the same site if you offer them.
USA
American clinics usually write about veterinary hospitals and pet insurance with American spelling and US dollar prices. The status feature handles any US time zone. Each vet's state licence can be shown on the team page, and the after-hours section can name your partner emergency hospital.
Canada
The demo is written for Canada: Canadian spelling, prices in CAD with HST added, Atlantic Time and a place for the hospital licence number from the provincial body. A clinic in Québec needs a full French version, which we build as its own set of pages.
Australia
Australian clinics need Australian English, prices in AUD including GST and local warning signs such as paralysis ticks and snake bites. The registration of each vet with the state board can be shown on the team page, with the ABN in the footer.
Finland
A Finnish clinic site usually needs Finnish and Swedish, and often English for expat owners. Prices are in euros including VAT. The open-now status works the same way in Finnish, and each language gets its own pages so it can rank in search.
What we deliver and how the project runs
We design the site to your brand and write the content with you: the animals you see, your services and sample fees, your team, your emergency advice and the questions your front desk hears every day. The hours, the status logic and the pet picker are set up from your real schedule and services.
We connect appointment requests to your booking system, email, WhatsApp or your CRM. You review the build on a staging link, and at launch we hand over the site, the logins and a short editing guide. We can then look after updates, security and hosting through our healthcare software services.
Tell us your clinic name, the animals you see and how owners book today, and we will send a quote. Ask for a quote.
