What customers look for on a bakery website
Bakery visitors split into two groups. Some want today's counter: what pastries and bread you bake, when you open and whether they can set a loaf aside. Others are planning an occasion, such as a birthday, an office brunch or a wedding, and want to know how far ahead to order, what a cake for 30 people costs and whether you deliver.
A bakery site has to serve both without making either wait. Opening hours and order lead times should be easy to find. A custom cake enquiry should start with numbers the customer knows, like guest count and date, rather than a blank message box. Allergen information has to be clear and must not promise more than your kitchen can deliver.
How our demo site handles it
Rue Rose Pâtisserie, a fictional bakery in Montréal, Québec, is the demo we built for this. The pâtisserie, its menu and its prices were invented by VirtueInfo for the demo. The look is soft pink and burgundy, with a rounded display font and an original panoramic illustration of the bakery in place of photography.
The custom cake builder
The signature feature is the custom cake order page. A customer enters servings from 8 to 120 in steps of four, picks one, two or three tiers and chooses vanilla, chocolate or lemon. The starting price in Canadian dollars updates at once, and a line below it explains the formula: a rate per serving, a charge for each extra tier and a small surcharge for chocolate. A drawing of the cake adds a second and third tier as they are chosen, so the customer can picture it on the table.
Below the builder, the page explains that decorations, sugar flowers, toppers and delivery are quoted separately. It also sets out the steps after an enquiry: questions, a sketch, a written quote and a deposit to hold the date. The enquiry form asks for name, email, preferred day and a message. It rejects dates in the past and empty required fields, and asks people to keep card and health details out of the form.
Gallery, counter and weddings
The cake gallery presents three house styles (a berry-topped round, a ribboned celebration cake and a simple tiered design) as starting points for a custom order. The pastries and bread page covers seasonal fillings, the country loaf, setting loaves aside by email, platter lead times and day-old bread. The weddings page walks through choosing a style, tastings, venue delivery and set-up, and when final guest numbers are due.
Local SEO built in
Every page carries schema.org structured data. The business is marked up as a Bakery, the specific type for this trade, with its area served and order desk hours. Inner pages add a Service entry and breadcrumbs.
Page titles pair each product with the city, such as celebration cakes, wedding cakes, and pastries and bread in Montréal, which is how people search for a bakery nearby. The name, hours and area match the details in your Google Business Profile. Pages are static, with self-hosted fonts and SVG artwork, so they stay fast on a phone.
The demo pages are not indexed because the bakery does not exist. Because Rue Rose Pâtisserie is invented, its demo stays out of search results, while a real bakery site launches open to Google with a sitemap and canonical tags.
Notes for each market
India
Show prices in rupees and mark eggless cakes clearly, since many customers ask for them. Cake orders often arrive by WhatsApp, so we add a WhatsApp button beside the enquiry form. Online deposits should accept UPI as well as cards.
USA
Use American spelling and dollar prices, and say whether sales tax is added at checkout. Same-day pickup and local delivery zones are worth stating plainly. Allergen statements should name the major allergens your kitchen handles.
Canada
Show Canadian dollar prices and explain how GST or HST applies to your products. A bakery in Québec needs French as the main language, with English alongside, and we plan both versions from the start. Counter labels and online product names should match in both languages.
Australia
Use Australian spelling and dollar prices, and say whether prices include GST. State the allergens your kitchen handles and your order lead times. Show your ABN in the footer if you take deposits online.
Finland
Prices go in euros with VAT included. Most bakeries need Finnish and English, and Swedish in some regions. Mark lactose-free and gluten-free options clearly, as customers look for them, and show your business ID (Y-tunnus) in the footer.
What we deliver and how the project runs
We design the site around your brand and your bakes, not the demo's palette. We write or edit the content with you: the counter menu, cake styles, wedding process, lead times and allergen wording. Cake enquiries can go to your email, WhatsApp or CRM. If you want to take deposits or sell pastry boxes and bread for pickup, our e-commerce work adds a checkout through your payment provider.
The project starts with a call about your customers and your busiest orders. We then share a design for review and build the pages, with structured data and help aligning your Google Business Profile. At hand-over we show you how to change prices, products and hours, and we offer maintenance if you would rather we looked after it.
If you want a site like this, ask us for a quote and tell us what you bake and where.
